WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National Building Museum will present its Honor Award to JBG SMITH and Washington Housing Initiative at its annual gala on Wednesday, May 29. Matt Kelly, CEO, JBG SMITH will accept the award on behalf of JBG SMITH, and Anthony Williams, CEO, Federal City Council will represent Washington Housing Initiative.

With a legacy of over 50 years that continues today, JBG SMITH has had a significant and positive impact on the Washington region’s built environment. Through its creativity, scale, and commitment to quality design, JBG SMITH is able to shape engaging places of enduring value and is a catalyst for innovative and engaging development, transforming the communities of our nation’s capital into better and more inspiring places.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award from the National Building Museum,” said Matt Kelly, CEO, JBG SMITH. “Throughout our history, we have committed to being more than just building owners and made it our mission to create inspiring places that enhance communities and the environment in the D.C. region. We are further strengthening this focus through our next wave of development projects, and we are thrilled to be recognized for these efforts.”

Launched in 2018, the Washington Housing Initiative seeks to bring together private and philanthropic capital to preserve and create affordable housing for working families in rapidly changing communities. Focused on improving housing equity and believing that inclusive communities are the key to sustained economic growth and the vibrancy of the Washington Metropolitan area, Washington Housing Initiative is an innovative approach to an important societal issue that will have a profound impact in each community that they touch.

“Working families are integral to the D.C. region’s economic and social fabric,” said Chris Smith, chairman of the Washington Housing Conservancy. “The Washington Housing Initiative is working to create connected communities that help share benefits, prevent displacement and maintain affordability in ways that will have a lasting impact for generations to come. We commend the National Building Museum for their commitment to community development and we are honored to accept this award.”

This year’s gala includes a late-night after party, featuring live music, open bar, late night snacks, and dancing until midnight.

“We are thrilled to bestow this honor on two such deserving organizations,” said Chase W. Rynd, president and executive director. “JBG SMITH and Washington Housing Initiative are working tirelessly to ensure that our region continues to be at the forefront of positive and progressive revitalization. We are looking forward to an evening that celebrates their contributions and future growth.”
