Enjoy Movies on Our West Lawn Through July

The DowntownDC BID and Shaolin Jazz are bringing the fourth year of the popular Summer Flicks – CAN I KICK IT? movie series to the Museum’s West Lawn! The theme is The Future, and weekly screenings will take attendees through time and space:

  • May 25: Star Trek
  • June 1: Ready Player One
  • June 8: Aliens
  • June 15: Tenet
  • June 22: Starship Troopers
  • June 29: Solo
  • July 6: Minority Report
  • July 13: Tron: Legacy
  • July 20: I, Robot
  • July 27: Mad Max: Fury Road

Each movie will be scored with an original soundtrack of hip-hop, soul, and more, mixed by weekly guest DJs, including Shaolin Jazz’s own DJ 2-Tone Jones.

Movies start at sunset, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, as chairs (e.g., folding chairs, inflatable seating, outdoor furniture, etc.) are not permitted on the lawn. Mobility devices and/or chairs are permitted for wheelchair users and/or individuals with limited mobility. The DowntownDC Summer Flicks – CAN I KICK IT? movie series is intended for all ages. Pets other than service animals are not allowed. Alcohol is not permitted. Masks are required.

The DowntownDC BID is partnering with local restaurants like HipCityVeg in Chinatown and Carving Room Kitchen & Bar to offer moviegoers special discounts for weekly showings. Check the BID website for full details. And be sure to follow the BID on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for updates, especially on days when rain may be in the forecast.

Weather Plan Policy
In effect for severe inclement weather, extreme heat (over 95 degrees), or if it has rained more than three quarters (¾) of an inch less (.75 inches) than 24 hours before the start of the event.  When the weather forecast calls for more than a 50% chance of rain during event hours, or if the landscape is penetrated with water a determination of weather-altered plans will be made three (3) hours prior to the start time of the event. For extreme heat, a determination will be made with the vendor(s) to cancel.

The BID will offer two rain dates to cover cancelations: August 3 and 10.
